FatCow has purchased wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates to offset 100% of the electricity used for their website hosting services.
This commitment will allow 4,412,000 kWh of wind energy to enter into the national electricity grid annually from May 2009 until May 2011. This purchase makes a difference for the environment and promotes our nation’s energy independence. The estimated environmental benefit is equivalent to planting about 2,390 acres of trees or not driving over 6.1 million miles per year.
The Renewable Energy Certificates are supplied by leading wind energy marketer and developer Community Energy – an Iberdrola Renewables Company.
Now FatCow offices and their data centers are all 100% powered by wind energy.
Since generating wind energy on site isn’t feasible, FatCow is offsetting all of their electricity use with wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates, which prevent the release of 2,660 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year.
